The Landings Club Golf

Among the many privileges that accompany membership at The Landings is the extraordinary opportunity to play not one but six 18-hole private championship golf courses designed by such masters as Arnold Palmer, Tom Fazio, Arthur Hills and Willard Byrd. Each course is stylistically unique, showcasing the natural beauty of Skidaway Island as well as the distinctive mark of its designer. Set against a stunning backdrop of stately hardwood forests, unspoiled saltwater marshes and pristine tidal creeks, all six courses have been designated as “Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries” by Audubon International, offering challenging play for golfers of all skill levels.

Marshwood, a tight course originally designed by Palmer and Frank Duane, offers incomparable views of Romerly Marsh and Wassaw Sound. Magnolia, also originally designed by Palmer in collaboration with Ed Seay, is regarded by most as a difficult test of all golfers’ skills, especially from the Championship and Tournament Tees.

At the southern end of the island, the Byrd-designed Plantation course has the distinction of being the only links style course, stretching out to the tip of the island and returning to the old country-style Plantation Clubhouse. The 7,000-yard, Hills-designed Palmetto course is considered the most difficult of the courses, which is why Palmetto has the honor of hosting most of the club championships’ final rounds. Oakridge, also designed by Hills, is a shot maker’s delight, while the recent $7.7 million renovation of Deer Creek by Tom Fazio provides members with a user-friendly, but challenging course with wide fairways and tough par 3’s.

Add four first-class practice facilities featuring driving ranges, chipping greens with bunkers and a multitude of putting greens, along with an outstanding instructional program offered by a staff of PGA and LPGA professionals, and you have a golf package beyond compare. Best of all, Landings Club golf is year-round golf, only for members and their guests.

AUDUBON CERTIFICATION

All six of our Golf Courses are designated “Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries” under the Audubon International certification program for golf courses. This means our courses are recognized for being utilized and managed to preserve and enhance the environment while still serving their primary purpose, golf.

All six of our golf courses have been certified since 2002. This is a major accomplishment. Over 1,900 courses in the U.S. participate in this program, including more than half of the top rated courses, but only 30% have achieved full certification. The process does not end with certification. Each course must be recertified every two years. Four of our courses were recertified this year.

The USGA endorses and financially supports the Audubon International Certification Program with a $100,000 annual grant. The PGA Tour and TPC Courses also endorse this program.

Net, Audubon Certification is highly endorsed, widely sought after, and tough to achieve. Everyone can take pride in the Club’s fine environmental stewardship record.

The Landings Club Was Awarded The 2011 USGA Women's State Team Championship.
